Aim a little right of the hole and clear the uphill slope, and the ball will break gently back to the left. Watch out, it’s easy to go past the hole and leave yourself a difficult putt back to the left hole. If you hit it too short, it’ll catch the hill and roll back short and left. This is the easiest hole to chip in, but now’s a good time to practice your lob—you’re going to need it for many of the remaining holes.

Caddy’s tip: The smart match-play shot is to lay up short of the hole to leave yourself a relatively straight uphill putt at a 2. (#9 handicap)
