5th Hole: Lilac

A soft-landing lob will keep you on the green and/or below the hole, leaving a straight putt up the hill.

Similar to the 1st hole, the right combination of line, trajectory, and speed will carry you on the green and let the ball roll straight up the hill to the hole. Avoid going off the green past the hole because the comebacker back down the hill is brutal. If you do end up above the hole consider chipping to the original (top) hole because you won’t be able to keep it on the green; you’ll probably end up with the same uphill putt whether you pull it back on and try for the lower hole or try for the top hole and miss.

Caddy’s tip: Don’t be a hero. Just clearing the gunge or leaving your ball below the hole inside the leather is better than being above the hole and off the green. (#4 handicap)
